    [Abstract]

This study was intended to clarify the problems and support for dental examinations in children with autism spectrum disorder. Papers on problems and support for dental examinations in children with autism spectrum disorder were extracted using the retrieval systems of Ichushi-Web ver. 5, CiNii Articles, PubMed, and CINAHL. The papers were then examined. Problems during dental examinations that were cited included the inability to sit in the examination chair and dislike of the lighting of the dental lamp. Specific forms of support provided during dental examinations that were cited included explanations of the examination, treatment content, and other matters using videos or picture cards, simulations for undergoing dental examinations, and the creation of a calming environment for the patient. Various behavioral therapies were used to address maladaptive behavior during dental examinations. In the future, support using the behavioral therapy required by each patient will need to be examined with reference to support designed to encourage children's understanding in support for children with autism spectrum disorder during examinations.
